Job Opening: Part-time Clerk to the Justice
The Town of Marbletown is seeking candidates for the part-time position of Clerk to the Justice in the Justice Department. (20 hours per week, with additional hours if it becomes necessary in the future, salary range of $21.00โ$22.25 hourly based on experience)
The Marbletown Justice Court exercises specified criminal, civil, vehicle and traffic jurisdiction for matters arising in the town.
Job Summary:
Manage the operations of the Justice Court in accordance with the requirements mandated by the Unified Court System, the Unified Justice Court Act, and the Court Administration System of N.Y. State; MUST WORK COURT NIGHTS typically Mondays; perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties involved in the operation of the Justice Court.
Essential Job Functions:
Prepare and maintain court calendar, participate in the setting of trial dates, schedule adjournments. Ensure all affected parties and attorneys are properly notified.
Compile and maintain documentation related to court proceedings: pull files; record adjournments; prepare sentencing documents; accept documents, judgments, petitions, motions, and affidavits for various files and check them for accuracy and completeness; maintain dockets and other records of criminal, civil and violation proceedings; establish and maintain files for criminal matters.
Enter and close traffic tickets and criminal cases in the computer, updating records and files as appropriate. Record dispositions, fines, and decisions.
Collect and prepare receipts for fees, fines, and bail money. Reconcile cash receipts, checkbook, and financial records for the court. Prepare bank deposits.
Answer telephone and in-person inquiries from attorneys, agencies, judges, and the public. Provide general assistance as appropriate to all parties involved in court proceedings.
Perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties such as typing and filing, preparing orders, arrest/bench warrants, summons, and other court forms; distributing decisions for the justice; and filing correspondence, arrest summons, reports, and other documents for court proceedings.
Assist the Judge during court sessions and proceedings.
Prepare a variety of regular reports for submission to state and county agencies. Perform general clerical duties such as processing daily mail, ordering supplies, copying, filing, etc.
Coordinate and schedule wedding ceremonies.
